DEVELOPMENT

EMPLOYEES AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The management at Lakama constantly promotes and incorporates community development and improvement at their facilities in all the different geographical areas. The facilities’ operations benefit the local communities in the form of extended local employment and donations, the building of churches, donations as well as local sport sponsorships and social responsibility.

LAKAMA SCHOOL

Our philosophy concerning workforce development is that of in-house training, development and promotion. We procure unskilled and untrained local employees, with the will and ambition to learn the Lakama Production System. We monitor the aptitude of the trainee and filter them into the departments according to their capability; i.e. Catering Kitchen and/or Central Distribution Department, Logistics Department, Accommodation Department, or Administrative Department.

Therefore, our bases of employees are all local who our experienced chefs guide during daily operation.

After excelling in a particular job, the trainee is promoted to a higher level. There are cases of trainees working through the hierarchical system from housekeeping entry level all the way to Accommodation Management.

Black Economic Empowerment (B.E.E.)

Lakama has always been a Black Economic Empowered Entity, and therefore plays an important role in the Economic Restructuring with Black Economic Development. As Lakama has been in operation since 1995, it is one of the few companies that have the necessary experience and knowledge to structure Business Development and Channels to promote and develop young PDI (Previously Disadvantaged Individual) managers. Within all our sites, all operations are managed by PDI managers, thus promoting the governments’ reconstruction and development program. All suppliers are also preferred to be BEE validated suppliers.
